The right time to do something is now!


You are going to get curve balls thrown at you no matter what so you might as well go after it anyway.

I was recently on a six-day trip to New Zealand testing one of my new experiences in the mountains. I took my photographer along to document our time there, we captured incredible photos for my website and social media. On the first day the plan was to hike to the first hut, drop off everything but the camera and safety gear, hike to the ridge, get photos then stay the night in the hut. The second day the plan was to hike to the second hut on top of the mountain to ensure it was an attainable goal for my clients, stay the night and get photos at sunrise.

The first day went as planned but when talking about the second day with the rangers they informed us that the weather forecast had changed and there was going to be 100km winds and rain after 3pm. I couldn’t believe it, the sole purpose of my journey was to hike up the mountain to ensure it was an achievable experience. My photographer had to do the long hike back and hitch hike out to get mobile phone service and get picked up a day early so the camera gear didn’t get wrecked.

I made the decision to go solo up the mountain then back all in one day to ensure it was a suitable track for my clients. I hiked the 20km up and down the steep rugged terrain for 7 hours without a break to beat the weather before it closed in. You do not want to be in the mountains in New Zealand when the weather turns bad. It was one of the hardest days of my life.  It made me realize that when something is important to you it doesn’t matter what the challenges or set backs are, you will find a way. You either find a way to succeed or find an excuse as to why you didn’t. I know which one feels better.

It is never going to be the right time to do anything, you are never going to have more resources, you will never be less busy, have less distractions or have more time. If you want to change your results you need to change your standards. You have everything you need right now, more than you ever give yourself credit for.
