What have you forgotten?

What do you need to remember?

Life now is so full of distraction that when we talk about reconnecting with ourselves it's almost a cliché. Its become acceptable, the norm, its just how it is now.

“We do not remember days, we remember moments.” Cesare Pavese

We all love our gadgets, our devices and our social media networks. Once it was a weekly outing, then it was a daily thing, now it's an hourly exercise, even more for some. Our life is centered around our phone, we communicate via it, form relationships with it, do business with it and relax with it.

We need time to defuse, to contemplate. Just as in sleep our brains relax and give us dreams, so at some time in the day we need to disconnect, reconnect, and look around us.” Laurie Colwin

You could say it's our biggest distraction and our most productive tool, especially with business. Our phones are only a small part of the busyness of life. Our work consumes a large part of our life, then there is Netflix, TV etc. you get the picture so I won't go on.

“Social media demands a lot of us on top of our already demanding lives. So let's disconnect as we need to and renew our interest and ourselves.” Simon Mainwaring

We slowly forget the things we were passionate about, our hobbies, our sport and the dreams we had when we were younger. We write our New Year resolutions on a bit of paper at the start of the year and they are forgotten in the time it took to write them.

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Harriet Tubman

I want to know what do you need to remember about yourself? What is that hobby or the passion for art or sport you loved but stopped because life got in the way? I know you know what it is. What will it take to just remember how it made you feel? What about the satisfaction it gave you? What things do you remember about yourself at that time?

I have a few simple tips that have helped me.
  1.  Get in the zone. Watch movies or listen to music from that time and remember.
  2. Set goals on what you are getting back into with detailed actions that supports them. Write down why you must achieve them.
  3.  Schedule time for yourself in your calendar. That way you are not thinking of all the other things you think you should to be doing instead of focusing on the moment.

“The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.” Bruce Lee

You are never too old, too slow, too busy, too out of shape or beat down to start. Don’t let an event in your life shake things up, get out there and rattle that cage.
